An old “war-horse” piece, rendered in thick, mottled black-and white “fire jade” that has survived through many calamities. The piece is carved in an 18th-century style, depicting a wise man sitting under a lantern-hung tree, a bat visible in the sky, the reverse with a central set of 4 characters. The piece has been repaired in one corner, but the repair work is nearly as old as the piece.
